Condom use and vulnerability to HIV / aids of homosexual sex workers in Aboisso (Côte d’Ivoire)

Sex work by homosexuals is a growing phenomenon in Ivory Coast. This phenomenon is gaining ground in all regions of Ivory Coast, and mostly affects young people. Sexual practices and acts associated with such activity expose the target group to infection with STIs and HIV / AIDS, thus making them vulnerable. This is to analyze the situation of vulnerability in relation to condom use that this study was carried out in Aboisso. Based primarily on the network and snowball technique, the study was conducted with a sample of twenty-three (23) respondents whose age varies between 19 and 32 years old. Following a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were carried out with them. With six (06) representatives of expert and witness populations, group discussions were carried out. It is clear that the lack of knowledge of STIs and HIV / AIDS, modes of transmission and methods of prevention coupled with unsafe sex are the key factors of vulnerability. Also, the respondents have a positive perception and attitude towards condoms. However, in practice they do not use it systematically during sex and intimate acts. And, for the sake of preserving their anonymity, many of them refuse to go to health facilities for medical follow-up. Their inclusion for this purpose in national policies is essential for efficient support in the practice of their work.
