Abstract

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy represent a major cause of maternal-fetal morbidity and mortality, with a global prevalence of 10 to 15%. The security crisis in Burkina Faso has led to a massive displacement of population to the cities of Kaya and Dori since 2019. The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy in the Regional Hospital Centers (CHR) of Kaya and Dori in this context of security crisis. This is a retrospective study with descriptive and analytical aims conducted in the gynecology-obstetrics departments from June 2019 to December 2022. A total of 1300 parturients had presented hypertensive disorders. The mean age was 25.2 ± 7.5 years. The prevalence of severe preeclampsia, moderate preeclampsia, gestational hypertension, chronic hypertension, and HELLP syndrome were 30.8%, 27.9%, 20.2%, 13.2%, 7.6%, and 0.4%, respectively. Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy remain dominated by severe preeclampsia. The prevalence of hypertensive disorders increased from 2019 to 2022 in the two regional hospitals (CHRs) hosting the areas most affected by the security and human rights crisis. In this context of crisis, care for pregnant women must be strengthened to improve pregnancy outcomes and women's cardiovascular health.
