Abstract

Despite the implementation of the COVID-19 vaccination program in the Bamako district and numerous information and awareness campaigns, some people remain hesitant to get vaccinated. The overall objective of this study was to investigate the psychosocial determinants of COVID-19 vaccination among the population of the Bamako district. This was a quantitative cross-sectional study conducted in the Bamako district in January 2022. The study included men and women aged 18 and over. The sample size was 2,700 people, and we used cluster sampling. The cleaned data were transferred and analyzed using SPSS 21. The variables studied included knowledge, perceptions, attitudes, and social influences regarding COVID-19 vaccination. According to the results, 30.7% of respondents had good knowledge of the subject, compared to 69.3% who did not; 96.9% had a positive perception, compared to 3.1% who did not; and 66% had a positive attitude, compared to 34% who did not. Among vaccinated respondents, 30.4% were influenced by a healthcare professional, 28.7% by the media, 23.8% by a close acquaintance, and 19.2% by someone who had already been vaccinated. The study shows that perceptions and attitudes were associated with COVID-19 vaccination (P=0.0005). The various psychosocial factors studied all had an impact on COVID-19 vaccination.
