Abstract

On Sunday, June 23, 2019, in the majority of large cities around the world that are home to the Soninke community, there are many on the planet, men and women cried and said: "Diadié Soumaare xeenu. Allah déera!" Or "Diadié Soumaré has fallen. Allah is great!" The deceased, a former laborer, accounting assistant, chartered accountant, retired, and Knight of the National Order of Mali, was 74 years old. May his soul rest in peace. For among the Soninke, let's even say in Manding societies, great men never die. They fall to lie on the ground. To protect them, they bury them. By the actions they had committed, they remain among the living. This is particularly the case of: Soumagourou Kanté, who disappeared in Koulikoro in 1235, where he is still said to live; El hadji Oumar Tall, whose traces were lost in 1864 in Dogon country; Cheikh Hamahoullah, deported to France in the 1940s, “where he still lives” etc.
