Tribute to Professor Adégné Niangaly

2026-05-30

It is with profound sadness and deep emotion that the African Journal of Social Sciences and Public Health (RASP) announces the passing of Professor Adégné Niangaly, who departed this life during the night of 29–30 May 2026.

A physician specializing in public health and community medicine, Professor Adégné Niangaly was a respected researcher and public health expert at the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) of Mali. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to research, disease prevention, and the improvement of population health. His work contributed significantly to a better understanding of health, social, and community challenges in Mali and across West Africa.

Professor Niangaly was also a committed member of the academic and scientific community. He took part in numerous research and collaborative initiatives addressing community health, the social determinants of health, hygiene, and the effects of crises and conflicts on vulnerable populations.

For RASP, this loss carries a particularly special significance. Professor Adégné Niangaly was a founding member of the journal. He was also a long-time friend and close colleague of the late Professor Nianguiry Kanté, whose vision and commitment played a central role in the creation and development of this publication. Both men shared a common conviction that African scientific knowledge must be produced, promoted, and placed at the service of the development of our societies.

Beyond his academic achievements, those who had the privilege of knowing him will remember a humble, generous, approachable, and deeply dedicated scholar. His professionalism, sense of duty, and commitment to public health left a lasting mark on generations of researchers, practitioners, and students.

In this moment of sorrow, the editorial board of RASP extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues at INSP, and to the wider scientific community in Mali and across Africa.

Today, RASP loses one of its founding members, but his work, his commitment, and the values he embodied will continue to inspire future generations.

May he rest in peace.
